Speech and language pathology is a dynamic field which uses a variety of research-based techniques to address communication concerns. To express oneself effectively is highly personal and the client's unique perspective is valued at Vocalize Speech Services. Adult population is our focus and clients are carefully evaluated to develop a care plan customized to reflect personal goals and evidence-based therapeutic practices.
Areas of treatment may include:
Aphasia
Apraxia
Cognition
Voice
Gender-affirming
...and more!
Vocalize Speech Services acknowledges the importance of quality of life, and effective communication is a direct path to reaching this goal. Speech and language therapy addresses all areas of communication, including cognition and swallowing disorders, revolving around the field's current best practices, client and caregiver education, and building trusting relationships. These necessary ingredients are shown to improve outcomes and assist clients with reaching their greatest potential.
Speech and language pathology includes an analysis of our intricate, interconnected communication systems using various techniques to address communication challenges caused by a variety of etiologies. In brief, there are four systems considered in speech and communication - respiration, the larynx, articulators, and the brain. The nervous system (brain) regulates these systems on both a conscious and subconscious level impacting expressive and receptive forms of language.
Speech and language therapy reduces barriers for effective communication in daily life. Client's goals will depend greatly on their specific needs and deficits, however care goals frequently include speech sounds, voice quality, aspects of language production, executive function, and cognitive communication.
Most common deficits in adults are linked to,
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Stroke (CVA)
Cognitive-Communication deficits (progressive and/or acquired)
Voice deficits/concerns
Age-Related deficits/concerns
The list is extensive and speech and language therapy can help!
Our brain is a broadly connected, complex communication system.
